Hi!!! I cannot wait for us to meet and get you started on your new journey. And, I thought it may be helpful to get to know me just a bit.
My name is Dr. Joan Haakonstad and I am one of the leaders of Take Action Partners.
I used to be a shrink - however, I am NOT the one you typically wanted to see if you needed to chat with someone about your issues. In fact, you did NOT want to see me professionally at all because it meant something was seriously wrong!!! My specialty was Crisis Intervention - I worked with people who were suicidal, homicidal, psychotic, delusional, intoxicated, on drugs, etc... - Anyone who was an imminent danger to themselves or others - I would be called in to complete a Psychiatric Evaluation and Lethality Assessment to see what needed to happen to keep everyone safe.
A normal day at work included getting threatened, having chairs thrown at me, getting yelled at, and more. And, to me, that was normal!!!
Then, I got married. And, when my patients saw a wedding ring, they then expanded their threats to include my husband. And, my straight-laced Rocket Scientist husband, was not too pleased. He asked me to have a career change accordingly. Reluctantly, I did.
And, I must admit - I struggled with what I wanted to do. I actually was not very good at therapy and knew that was not the right direction for me. Growing up, my parents flipped houses so I thought that maybe real estate would be a good fit.
Welllllllll, not so much. I LOVE real estate and I LOVE real estate investing. But, I was not the most patient Realtor in the world when it came to working with people to find their new homes. I enjoyed, and am still a Licensed Real Estate Broker (owning my own brokerage); however, I wanted to do something else.
Eric, my husband, and I attended an evening seminar on building wealth using Indexed Universal Life (IUL) products. We met with the presenter who became our financial advisor and he introduced us to the Financial GPS discussed throughout this page.
We were amazed - we were going to have our 29-year mortgage paid off in only 9.1 years. We were saving over $327,000 in interest and almost 20 years of payments. And, we did this without refinancing, our monthly payments remained the same, and there was no change to our monthly budget. We were absolutely BLOWN AWAY!!!
And, skeptical!
I mentioned above, I happen to be married to a rocket scientist. My husband used to run an aerospace company and has literally put things into space. Well, my nerdy husband locked himself away in our library to "crunch the numbers" to see if the program was real. He spent the entire weekend doing so.
